Grims Backpacks gives you storage you wear on your back. Every physical backpack has its own separate inventory, so several backpacks hold several different sets of items. This guide covers version 0.1.10.
- 27 to 6 x 53 slots
- Seven tiers
- Absorbs a chestplate
- Netherite fire set
- Event styles
- Vouchers

Craft a Basic Leather Backpack at a crafting table:
String Leather String
Leather Leather Leather
Iron Nugget Leather Iron Nugget
That is five leather, two string, and two iron nuggets.
Craft one backpack at a time. Shift-click crafting is disabled, because every backpack must receive its own storage identity.
The contents follow the physical backpack, not the player who crafted it. A backpack you drop, trade, or hand over carries its items with it.

Wearing & Opening
A backpack uses your chest armor slot. You can equip it in either of these ways:
- Drag it into your chest armor slot.
- Hold it in your main hand, then sneak-use the air or double-crouch.
Once it is worn, open it by sneak-using the air, by double-crouching, or with /bp.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/bp | Opens the worn backpack. |
/bp wear | Equips the backpack in your main hand. |
/bp info | Shows its tier and capacity. |
/bp detach | Separates absorbed armor from the worn backpack. |
/bp settings doublecrouch off | Turns the double-crouch shortcut off. |
/bp settings doublecrouch on | Turns it back on. |
/bp dt | Toggles that same saved shortcut. |
/backpack works too. It is the long name of /bp. The double-crouch shortcut is on by default, and your setting is remembered.
Gesture rules
- If you are holding a placeable block, sneak-use places the block. Double-crouch still opens your backpack.
- Sneak-use with a fishing rod is reserved for fishing. Use double-crouch or
/bpto open your backpack while holding one. - Double-crouching with a backpack in your main hand equips or swaps it before opening the worn backpack.
- The equip gesture safely swaps any chestplate, elytra, or worn backpack into your main hand. A standalone backpack and a chestplate or elytra cannot sit in the chest slot together.

Capacity
| Backpack tier | Storage |
|---|---|
| Basic Leather | 27 slots |
| Large Leather | 54 slots |
| Copper | 2 compartments, 53 slots each |
| Iron | 3 compartments, 53 slots each |
| Gold | 4 compartments, 53 slots each |
| Diamond | 5 compartments, 53 slots each |
| Netherite | 6 compartments, 53 slots each |
Copper and higher backpacks open a compartment selector first. The final slot inside each compartment is a Back to Compartments button, so that is where you go to switch sections.
Touchscreen Bedrock players get a large-button form for the selector. Java, controller, and keyboard and mouse players get the normal inventory menu.

Upgrading
Put your current backpack in the center of a crafting table, string in both top corners, leather at top middle and both middle sides, and the next tier's material in both bottom corners:
String Leather String
Leather Backpack Leather
Material Material
| Upgrade | Bottom-corner material |
|---|---|
| Basic to Large Leather | 2 leather |
| Large Leather to Copper | 2 copper ingots |
| Copper to Iron | 2 iron ingots |
| Iron to Gold | 2 gold ingots |
| Gold to Diamond | 2 diamonds |
| Diamond to Netherite | 2 netherite ingots |
Upgrading keeps the backpack's contents and identity. Detach absorbed armor before you upgrade.
Netherite set bonus
Fire protection. A Netherite-tier backpack worn with a Netherite helmet, leggings, and boots protects you from fire, lava, campfires, magma blocks, and similar fire damage. Remove any required piece and the bonus ends.
The bonus follows the tier, not the look, so an event backpack upgraded to Netherite counts as well.

Backpack Armor
Place one standalone backpack and one supported chestplate anywhere in a crafting table. Supported chestplates are Leather, Copper, Chainmail, Iron, Golden, Diamond, and Netherite.
The result is the same backpack with the chestplate absorbed into it. It keeps its tier, appearance, and stored contents, and it gives you the chestplate's armor, durability, enchantments, and supported effects. The hidden armor does not replace the visible backpack.
Use /bp detach while wearing it to separate the items. The chestplate stays equipped, and the backpack returns to your inventory, or drops safely if your inventory is full.
- Detach before repairing, renaming, enchanting, grinding, trimming, or upgrading the backpack.
- If the armor breaks, the backpack is recovered with the same contents. The broken chestplate is gone.
- Curse of Binding prevents detaching or swapping the worn backpack outside Creative mode.
- With keep-inventory off, Curse of Vanishing destroys the absorbed chestplate but drops the clean backpack. With keep-inventory on, the combined item stays with you.
- Some third-party armor plugins may not recognize absorbed armor, because the physical item is still a backpack.
Bundles in the recipe book. The recipe book may show an ordinary Bundle as the backpack ingredient. Only a genuine standalone Grims Backpack works in the recipe.

Event Styles
Halloween, Christmas, Soul Coffin, and Cursed Spellbook backpacks are event items from the staff or from vouchers. They cannot be crafted. They start with Basic capacity and keep their look through every upgrade.
- Halloween is the classic fox-and-lantern backpack, the neutral option.
- Soul Coffin is a chained coffin with soul fire leaking from its cracked lid, a skeletal hand gripping the edge, and a red-eyed crow on top.
- Cursed Spellbook is a chained spellbook with a living eye that watches you. On Java it glances around and blinks, and its runes and candles glow at night.
Backpack vouchers
You might win a backpack voucher from a crate or a vote reward. It is glinting paper named "Voucher: <style> Backpack".
- Hold it and right-click in the air or on a block. It turns into a brand-new backpack right in that slot, even if your inventory is full.
- Every voucher makes its own backpack with its own empty storage, so it is never a hand-me-down.
- Vouchers do not stack, and they cannot be used in crafting or at workstations.

Java & Bedrock
Java and Bedrock players use the same backpacks, the same gestures, and the same storage. A few things look or behave a little differently:
| Topic | Java | Bedrock |
|---|---|---|
| Worn size | The backpack follows changes to your player-size attribute. | The backpack uses the wearable size supplied by the Bedrock pack. |
| Compartment selector | Inventory menu. | Large-button form on touch, inventory menu on controller and on keyboard and mouse. |
| Soul Coffin and Cursed Spellbook | The soul fire, eyes, runes, and candle flames glow in the dark. The spellbook's eye looks left and right, and blinks. | Both styles show without the glow, and the spellbook's eye stays open. |
The compartment layout is chosen for you automatically, including on Android and iPhone. If you want to force one, use /gcc menu backpacks auto, classic, or mobile. Your choice is kept across reconnects and restarts.
When you join, accept the server's resource pack so your backpack shows its EverGrims Werks model instead of a plain bundle.

Storing & Help
Backpacks may be carried, dropped, traded, or stored in:
- Player inventories
- Chests, trapped chests, and double chests
- Barrels
They cannot be placed as blocks, and they cannot be stored inside:
- Another backpack
- A vanilla bundle
- A shulker box
- An ender chest
- A hopper or other container block
Ordinary bundles stay ordinary items. Only the backpacks this plugin marks follow these rules.
Quick help
A backpack cannot contain itself. Other nested backpacks are returned when the container closes. The recipe book lists the basic backpack; use the crafting patterns in this guide for upgrades and armor absorption.
- It will not equip. Drag it into the chest slot, or hold it and use
/bp wear. Curse of Binding can prevent swapping. - It will not open. Confirm it is worn, then try
/bpor double-crouch. - Double-crouch is annoying. Use
/bp dtto turn it off. Run it again to turn it back on. - A compartment menu appeared. Copper and higher backpacks use compartments.
- A container rejects it. Only player inventories, chests, trapped chests, double chests, and barrels accept backpacks.
- The fire bonus stopped. Check the backpack tier and all three other Netherite armor pieces.
