Getting started
Your First Farm
Start by breaking natural vegetation to discover seeds. Each broken plant has a small chance to reveal one seed.
Plains, Meadows, and Forests
Plains, Meadows, and Forests
Plains and Savannas
Deserts, Savannas, and Badlands
Plant seeds on Grass Blocks, Coarse Dirt, or Farmland. These surfaces need source water—or a waterlogged block—within four blocks.
Grims Planting Soil can instead be watered by hand and improved with fertilizer.
Tomato Rows
Tomatoes may touch when planted in one straight row along the X or Z direction. Leave at least one empty block between parallel rows. Crossing rows or solid tomato fields are not allowed.
From sprout to supper
Growing & Harvesting
Each growth step normally takes between 60 seconds and four minutes. Crops only grow while their area is loaded.
Use an empty hand or ordinary item on a mature crop to harvest it. The plant remains and begins regrowing.
- Java & controllerUse/interact with the crop.
- TouchscreenTap or medium-press to harvest.
- UprootLong-press or deliberately break the block.
A normal harvest gives one to three items. Harvesting does not return seeds. Breaking a plant has a chance to recover its seed.
Making More Seeds
Use a crafting table:
Two crops placed in two separate slots produce:
Chili Peppers currently have no two-crop conversion.
Menus in your hand
Player Books
Books are the easiest way to reach the main menus.

The heart of the kitchen
The Stove
Craft a Stove by placing a Furnace in the center of a crafting table and surrounding it with eight Iron Ingots.
Place the Stove and interact with it. Its menu contains:
- A 3×3 ingredient grid
- The item currently Cooking
- Finished food in Stored
- A Cook Book button
Recipes are shapeless: ingredients may be placed anywhere in the nine cooking slots. The Cook Book shows every recipe, required ingredients, cook time, hunger restored, and returned containers.
Raw meat is used in recipes unless the Cook Book specifically says otherwise.
Useful Starter Recipes
Instant recipes move directly to the result. Timed dishes appear in Cooking before transferring to Stored.
Stackable meals continue cooking while Stored has room. Bowl dishes pause when both result spaces are occupied.
Work the land
Agriculture Skills
Harvesting mature crops earns Agriculture experience. Open the Skills Book to view your level and unlocked perks.
Harvest Mastery
Guaranteed extra produce is added at Agriculture levels:
Progress between milestones also gives a growing chance toward the next bonus.
Careful Hands Level 25
When enabled through the Skills Book, harvested produce goes directly into your inventory instead of dropping on the ground.
Masterful Hands
Masterful Hands automatically routes large harvests into linked double chests:
Place the chest within 128 blocks horizontally and attach a sign:
[crops]Accepts anything not otherwise sorted[tom]or[tomato][let]or[lettuce][corn][chili]or[pepper]
Choose your specialty
Cooking Skills
Collecting completed Stove food earns Cooking experience. More involved dishes generally provide more experience.
Choose your active cooking path in the Skills Book.
Chef's Hands
Reduces cooking time by 5% per rank, up to 50%.
Extra Servings
Adds a 5% chance per rank to produce two dishes, up to 50%. A bonus serving does not provide additional experience.
Cooking ranks unlock across ten milestones, ending at level 255. Chat messages announce new ranks.
Better ground, better crops
Grims Planting Soil
Planting Soil stores moisture and fertilizer for the crop above it.
Crafting Pattern

Coarse DirtSlab
Any slab type may be used.
Watering Pail
Purchase a Watering Pail from Tools & Guides in the Crops Store. It holds nine uses, shown by its durability bar.
Refill it from:
- A source-water block, which is not removed
- A waterlogged source
- A water cauldron, which loses one water level
Use the filled pail on Planting Soil. One watering normally supports the first complete growth and three later harvest cycles.
Dry soil grows 50% slower and cannot complete its final step. Watering it wakes the crop and allows it to finish.
Tune your harvest
Fertilizers
Apply one fertilizer bag to Planting Soil. A bag normally lasts for four completed crop cycles.
Recipes are shapeless, but the exact total quantities are required. Ingredients may be stacked in the crafting grid.
Retention Fertilizer I
- 1 Coarse Dirt
- 2 Bone Meal
- 2 Clay Balls
- 2 Sand
Each maturity cycle has a 50% chance not to consume moisture.
Growth Fertilizer I
- 1 Coarse Dirt
- 2 Bone Meal
- 2 Sand
- 2 Gravel
The crop skips its final growth step.
Yield Fertilizer I
- 2 Coarse Dirt
- 5 Bone Meal
- 2 Sand
- 2 Dirt
Mature harvests receive a 1.5× multiplier.
Fertilizers and Planting Soil may also be purchased from the Crops Store.
Water the whole field
Sprinklers
Sprinklers are purchased from Tools & Guides.
A sprinkler must be placed directly on Farmland. It needs a source-water or waterlogged block within ten blocks. It may also connect through another supplied sprinkler within ten blocks.
Green particles confirm a successful connection.
A supplied sprinkler hydrates the Farmland beneath it and keeps covered Planting Soil moist.
Grow under glass
Greenhouses
A basic greenhouse should:
- Fit within a 16×16 area
- Be no taller than 16 blocks
- Provide at least four clear blocks of interior height
- Have mostly glass or open upper walls
- Allow strong daylight to reach at least three quarters of the growing area
Wooden beams, logs, stairs, slabs, doors, trapdoors, fences, gates, panes, and iron bars may be used for support and decoration. Glass-heavy walls and roofs are the safest design.
Stand near the middle, open the Skills Book, enter Greenhouses, and select the registration button. A failed check explains what is missing and does not consume one of your four standard greenhouse spaces.
Naming a Greenhouse
Attach a written wall sign to the inside or outside of the structure. Its text becomes the greenhouse name in your Skills Book.
If several signs cause a conflict:
- Look directly at the desired sign.
- Open the greenhouse entry in the Skills Book.
- Select Link Looked-At Sign.
Tools of the trade
Crop Tools
Tools are purchased from Tools & Guides in the Crops Store. The menu shows their required Agriculture level before purchase.
No-Mo-Gro Sickles
Use a Sickle on one of your plants to freeze it at its current appearance. Frozen plants stop growing and do not count toward planting limits.
Use the Sickle on it again to resume growth.
Harvest Scythes
Crop-specific Scythes harvest ready plants in a 3×3 area:
Crouch-use always harvests only the targeted plant. With the Master Scythe, crouch-use also selects that crop type for later 3×3 harvesting.
Grower's Gauges
- Grower's Gauge, level 25: shows crop stage, readiness, greenhouse status, and sprinkler coverage.
- Precision Grower's Gauge, level 96: also gives a cautious estimate for the next growth step.
Use a Gauge on a crop or sprinkler to inspect it.
Seeds, supplies & sales
Crops Store
Open the Store from the button inside either the Skills Book or Cook Book.
Command fallback: /cropshop
The standard Store:
- Buys crops, seeds, ingredients, and completed dishes
- Sells tools, books, Planting Soil, pails, fertilizers, sprinklers, and Stoves
- Does not normally sell crops or food back to players
- Never buys tools or books
The menu shows the exact price before you confirm. Tools, books, pails, and sprinklers are purchased one at a time. Planting Soil and fertilizer support bulk purchases.
