Grims Gem Equipment adds complete emerald and amethyst gear sets for Java and Bedrock players. Both materials have identical gameplay statistics, so you can choose the color and material you prefer without giving up performance.

Gear Overview
Two Materials, Equal Strength
Every emerald item has an amethyst counterpart with the same protection, durability, damage, speed, mining ability, and enchantability.
- Craft emerald equipment with emeralds.
- Craft amethyst equipment with amethyst shards.
- Armor uses familiar vanilla armor shapes.
- Tools and weapons use sticks just like normal equipment.
- A complete armor set costs 24 emeralds or 24 amethyst shards.
Where Gem Equipment Fits
Gem armor sits between iron and diamond. A complete set provides more protection and durability than iron, but less protection and toughness than diamond.
| Full armor set | Armor points | Toughness |
|---|---|---|
| Iron | 15 | 0 |
| Emerald or amethyst | 18 | 4 |
| Diamond | 20 | 8 |
Gem armor does not add extra health, knockback resistance, or movement penalties.

Armor
Armor Statistics
| Piece | Armor points | Toughness | Durability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Helmet | 3 | 1 | 264 |
| Chestplate | 7 | 1 | 384 |
| Leggings | 5 | 1 | 360 |
| Boots | 3 | 1 | 312 |
| Full set | 18 | 4 | — |
Armor Durability
Each gem armor piece lasts approximately 1.6 times as long as its iron counterpart and 3.43 times as long as gold armor. Diamond armor still has greater durability.

Tools & Weapons
Equipment Statistics
| Item | Durability | Attack damage | Attack speed | Crafting cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pickaxe | 900 | 4.5 | 1.2 | 3 gems + 2 sticks |
| Axe | 900 | 9 | 0.95 | 3 gems + 2 sticks |
| Shovel | 900 | 5 | 1 | 1 gem + 2 sticks |
| Hoe | 900 | 1 | 3.5 | 2 gems + 2 sticks |
| Sword | 900 | 6.5 | 1.6 | 2 gems + 1 stick |
| Spear | 900 | 3.75 jab | 1 | 1 gem + 2 sticks |
Damage figures show your total unenchanted attack damage, including the player’s base 1 damage. Attack speed is the number of attacks per second under Java combat rules.
Spear charge damage changes with motion, so the listed 3.75 damage applies to its normal jab rather than every charged attack. Both gem spears use charge behavior between Minecraft 26.2 iron and diamond spears, with a 20-tick stab animation matching one attack per second.
Mining Performance
- Pickaxes, axes, shovels, and hoes have mining speed 7 on their matching blocks—between iron’s 6 and diamond’s 8.
- Gem tools retain iron’s harvest tier.
- Gem pickaxes can harvest diamond ore.
- Gem pickaxes cannot harvest obsidian or ancient debris.
- Axes can strip logs, shovels can create paths, and hoes can till soil normally.
- Swords inherit iron sword block-breaking behavior.

Administrator Guide
Requirements
- Paper 26.3 and Java 25
- Packforge and the supplied content.
- A current Geyser build supporting v2 custom items and spear components
No extra gameplay plugin or datapack is required. The Complete download includes content definitions, Java resources, a Geyser mapping, the Bedrock pack, instructions and license notices.
Packforge and Java
- Install the bundle’s
egw_gemsfolder inplugins/Packforge/contents/. - Run
/pf zipand confirm the console reports noegw_gemserrors. - Publish the resulting combined pack through the server’s normal resource-pack setup.
- Have Java players accept the current combined pack.
The separate Java ZIP contains the same visual assets for manual testing or pack stacking. It does not need to replace the server’s combined pack.
Geyser and Bedrock
- Place
egw_gems.jsonin the active Geyser instance’scustom_mappingsdirectory. - Place
GrimsGemEquipment-Bedrock-1.0.3.mcpackin that Geyser instance’spacksdirectory. Keep only one copy of this pack/version. - Enable
gameplay.enable-custom-contentin the existing Geyser configuration. - Optionally enable
gameplay.force-resource-packswhen pack acceptance should be required. - Fully restart Geyser and reconnect Bedrock test clients.
When Geyser runs on a proxy, install the mapping and Bedrock pack on the proxy’s Geyser instance. Do not create a second gameplay section in its configuration.
Getting Test Items
Administrators can use /pf give <player> egw_gems:emerald_helmet or /pf give <player> egw_gems:amethyst_pickaxe. Both materials support these suffixes:
helmet chestplate leggings boots
pickaxe axe shovel hoe sword spear
Updating from 1.0.0
- Replace both files under
egw_gems/configs/and run/pf zip. - Replace the old Geyser mapping and Bedrock pack with the 1.0.3 copies.
- Restart Geyser and reconnect clients.
- Check a fresh amethyst pickaxe. Its tooltip should show 4.5 attack damage and 1.2 attack speed.
Crossplay Notes and Limits
- The mapping registers all 20 items, durability values, repairs, mining rules, armor points, and spear behavior.
- The Bedrock pack provides 20 inventory icons, eight armor attachables, and two spear attachables.
- Recipes come from Paper and Packforge through Geyser; no Bedrock behavior pack is used.
- Java retains the source armor-trim item models and equipment layers.
- Bedrock currently shows the base gem armor texture and enchantment glint; custom trim overlays are not included.
- Horse and nautilus armor are outside this release.
Troubleshooting
- Java shows iron or missing textures: verify Packforge loaded
egw_gems, rerun/pf zip, and refresh the served pack. - Bedrock shows iron: verify the mapping loaded, custom content is enabled, and no older mapping duplicates these identifiers.
- Bedrock icons work but worn armor does not: confirm the current pack was accepted, clear the cached pack, and reconnect.
- Protection or repairs are wrong: test a freshly issued item and check whether another item-stat plugin replaces its components.
