Grims Borders
Grims Borders draws a wall around the world and tells you about it before you reach it. The point is that nobody should ever be surprised by it: you can see the edge coming, you get a warning before it, you are stopped at it, and only a player who keeps deliberately pushing past it runs into anything worse.
You can see it
Come within about five blocks of the edge and a panel of particles appears on it, so the border is something you can look at rather than something you find out about. It is drawn for you alone — nobody else sees your wall — and standing in a corner shows you both faces.
What happens as you approach
Distance is measured from the nearest wall, so walking into a corner reads exactly the same as walking straight at it.
| Where you are | What happens | On record? |
|---|---|---|
| 5 blocks inside | The wall becomes visible. | No |
| 15 blocks inside | One action-bar warning, then it leaves you alone for 30 seconds. | No |
| At the wall | You stop. The wall is solid — you are not allowed through it, so there is no crossing and being yanked back. Action bar every time, a chat line every few seconds. | No |
| 25 blocks past | Warped back to spawn with a clear warning, and told how many attempts you have left. | Yes |
| Fourth attempt | You are executed at the wall, and you lose what you are carrying. | Yes |
Those numbers are the defaults. Your server can change every one of them, so ask your staff what yours are set to.
Going fast is not going outside
Worth saying plainly, because it is the thing players worry about: an elytra at full speed will not get you executed. You can cover a lot of ground in a single moment, and if you were inside the border a moment ago, you are simply stopped at the wall and nothing is written down.
The rings only bite for someone who was already outside and kept going, or who chose to land out there on purpose with an ender pearl or a chorus fruit.
Portals
A Nether trip whose far end works out past the border does not dump you at spawn. The journey stands — you arrive in the Overworld, just placed a short way inside the wall instead of outside it, with a line telling you what happened. Nothing is recorded against you.
There will not be a portal waiting at that spot unless one was already there, so you may have a walk or a build ahead of you to get back.
Never held against you
Being found outside the border without having walked there does not count against you at all: logging in outside, coming out of a Nether or End portal, being teleported by an admin, or being swept up by an admin doing a tidy-up pass. You are simply put back somewhere safe. Nothing is recorded and no attempt is added.
Wherever you are put back to, it is checked before you land — solid ground, room to stand, and nothing that hurts on contact.
If the worst happens
An execution clears what you are carrying. There is one exception worth knowing about: backpacks and chests are taken, not destroyed. A Grims Backpack or a Grims Chest is lifted out intact and put on an admin shelf, and your staff can give it back. Everything inside it is still there.
That is an admin decision, not an automatic one — but the container and its contents are not gone.
Commands
There are no player commands. Everything in Grims Borders is staff-only, and you will never need to type anything for it to work.
Playing on Bedrock
Identical on Bedrock. The particle wall, the warnings, the titles and the chat lines all arrive the same way, and there is no resource pack to install for it.
